Austin Perfect/Imperfect Getaway

We scooted on down to Austin this weekend.  One of our favorite bands, Off With Their Heads, were playing at Red7 and we wanted to check out the new W hotel.

The hotel was precisely hip and in a great location to get everywhere we wanted to go in walking distance.

Red 7 was hot.   

 And OWTH I'm sure was amazing, but we missed their show.

...going back to that hot thing at Red7.  It was soo hot that we looked at the line up and then waited inside the non-air-conditioned-bar, sitting on the floor in front of the only Sharper Image knock-off fan in the whole place; counting the bands playing until OWTH would be on.

Well somehow/sometime since we got there and until they should have been on, they switched the line-up and OWTH played and left the house.

We were pretty upset...


but we got Eazy E stamped on our hands to get in and some how that made everything ok.


I'll share my favorite vintage shops and divine restaurant find from the trip soon.

Aspen and a Game

Paul had to go to Aspen for a meeting on a new house a client of his is building. They were sweet enough to invite me along! We left Friday morning, and since the meeting was only for an hour or two on Monday, we had plenty of time to relax and have a mini vaca!

I hadn't been back to Aspen since I hurt my back and I didn't realize how hard it would be to be so close to the mountain and not be able to snowboard down!

I had to take a mini gondola down to a restaurant where I would meet Paul every time he got done with a run.

Luckily I had a lot of work to do to keep me distracted from snowboarding!

...I love to embarrass Paul by making him take pictures of me doing touristy things! :)

We went to all three of Craig Cordts-Pearce's restaurants in Aspen. We met him the first night at Wild Fig and Paul's clients thought it would be fun for us to experience all of his restaurants! Each one was delicious and different from the first.

...Kevin Costner was at the table next to us here.

This morning I decided (with the help of Paul asking) to walk down to a bakery to bring some breakfast back to the house.

Here's some things I saw along my way.

This bird is called a Magpie, they were my favorite there. ...I called them flying penguins!

...and finally I made it to the bakery! It was so cute and you weren't allowed to have your cell phone on when you were inside!

When I got back, I hopped back into bed until Paul woke up.

Then back to work at the bottom of Snowmass mountain.

I met back up with Paul and we headed back into town.

I thought this blanket was beautiful.

...and, this outfit looked sooo comfy!

I was so sad that I wasn't able to snowboard, so I had to at least fall (safely) into the snow!

Heading to the airport, what a relaxing weekend!

...ohh, and we got to fly private on a Cessna Citation! Look at this view way above the clouds!

Landed back in Big-D!

We finished off our weekend with a Mav's game with the client.

Momma/Daughter Mini Vaca

My mom and I had our first trip ever together this past weekend. I have a feeling it won't be our last. We had so much fun driving down to Austin and exploring the capitol!

We stopped by Inner Space Caverns since my Mom had never been.

She loved it! ...and she was able to see some bats!

Our first stop in Austin was the Capitol. We had the cutest West African tour guide!

My Mom's only request on this trip was that we stop by O. Henry's house; so she could add him to the list of Authors houses she's been to. Her list is pretty impressive:

Believe it or not, we didn't take pictures of the rest of our trip: lunch at the Driskill, HGTV watching in the hotel room, dinner at Trio in the Four Season, shopping and brunch on SoCo, spa at the Four Seasons and then stopping by Czech Stop for yummies on the way home.

The weather and our time together was perfect. Can't wait for our next trip!

Little Anniversary Getaway...

Paul found out that one of his favorite bands, Off With Their Heads, were playing down in Austin this weekend. So, we decided for our one year anniversary that we would go on our first road trip together and go see them!

Since we officially decided to take the trip the night before, our favorite hotels were all ready booked up. Paul, the avid researcher that he is, decided to try out a new "zen" hotel, Hotel Casulo. The funny thing is when we got there, our room wasn't ready yet and we had to wait in the lobby. After looking around, I actually felt bad for the hotel. You could tell the decorator (owner?) had tried so hard to mix urban, antique, and asian flare together and failed miserably. The funny thing is, I said it was just missing "zen"! But, once we got to our room it wasn't half bad and the bed was actually comfortable.

I really like the bathroom. The shower and tub were enclosed together and you could see out to the bedroom and the rest of the bathroom.

Being that I packed the morning of the trip, I forgot an important piece... my bathing suit! So, I thought this would be a great excuse to go shopping on SoCo (South Congress) while Paul got some rays.

Feathers is my absolute favorite vintage clothing store in Austin. I picked up a bright tunic that I actually wore out of the store and a pair of porcupine earrings made by the owner.

I thought this was such a cute bench/cactus garden that I might copy it on our roof.

Of course, I had to hit up Uncommon Objects while I was hitting the street as well! I scored some cute little knick-knacks for my desk. I stayed until around seven when I realized I should get back to go to dinner.

Paul called one of our friends Lindsey for some recommendations, and she suggest Wink and said that I would love it. And love it, I did.

After dinner we got in a cab with a driver that was literally not on this planet. Paul and I could not stop nudging each other to try to refrain from laughing out loud! Eventually we made it to Red7. We still had three bands to make it through until OWTH came on and no A/C. So, I did something I never do... I started drinking! I had their Root Bearded drink (root beer infused vodka with cream soda), a Tia Carrere drink (orange infused vodka with Sweat Tea Green Tea) and a Stella.

They had one of those booths that takes pictures, but it was out of order. So, I decided to take the pic with our own camera!


It was so fun to just run around Austin with my hubby. The show was great and more importantly we spent the weekend together. Today we hit up SoCo one more time so I could show him some items for the house at Uncommon Objects and grab some brunch.

Off-Roading Red River Style

Whenever we all go out to Paul's Dads house we have to bring the four-wheelers and go to the Red River. Paul and Carlos (our brother-in-law) ran into a man named Kim that owns a bunch of land on the Red River. So we just slide some cash and ride all over.

I made Paul stop twice for me to check this out on the trail. I video taped it below so you can actually see them moving!!
