Sergeant's Big-Boy Bed!

Sergeant's birthday was last week and he's a grand nine years old.  We kept it low key with plenty of Frosty Paw's, but I knew I wanted to get him a new bed.  Since this couch and now this chair are gone he hasn't been super-duper comfy in awhile.

I got him a regular dog bed, but he's so heavy that the cushion doesn't last long.

I then had the genius idea to buy a toddler mattress.  It was an instant hit!  And the great thing is it's waterproof and I can wash the sheets anytime I want.

Now he just has to come up with a way to keep his brothers off of it...

Helpful tip:  The cheapest mattresses at Baby's R Us and Target are plastic don't let air out when a heavy dog lays on it.  The air fills up all around and makes the surface uneven.  By spending a little bit more I was able to get a cloth one and just put a waterproof cover over it.

Pet Hair Battle Zone

I've almost fallen to my knees in tears over the amount of fur our floors collect.  With two large dogs and two cats the shedding in our home has gotten completely out of control and I'm taking this war head on!

Here are my two new favorite weapons:

In my left harness I have FurGOpet's Large Dog Deshedder.  You can't even call this thing a brush, more like a miracle worker.  So much hair came off of Shadow that I could have made 5 Scooters.  Promise.

The second I started brushing him, I knew that it will all be ok.  I honestly didn't even know where all the hair was coming from.  It was fluffy and thick and Shadow really enjoyed the brushing.  Seeing the balls of fur covering the grass around us made me so grateful that I bought the brush even though it was more than $20.

In my right harness I have Scotch's Fur Fighter Sweeper.  I have a Dyson, Swiffer, and old school mop and I would choose this over all of them for everyday purposes.  And by everyday, I mean everyday I use this sweeper!  It's so fast and easy.  It fits under anything and the hair doesn't fly around when you sweep.  I haven't even put this guy away, it's in my kitchen right now waiting for some fur to fall of an animal.

Things that didn't work:  A thousand other deshedder brushes, Scotch's Fur Fighter Auto Interior Brush, and ignoring it to see if it would disappear.

Hope these new discoveries help others that are loosing this battle.

You Snooze, You Loose

The boys are soaking up all the time they can get on our last chair.  It seems like everyday we're getting rid of another piece of furniture during all this construction.  Our rug was tossed yesterday so the floor isn't as comfortable as it was the day before and these guys are fighting for their comfort.

It looks like they got it handled for today.

Here's to relaxing!

Girl time with some boys...

After work today it was too beautiful to just go home.  I called some friends up, grabbed my boys and headed to the lake.

We just lounged about, soaked up every second of the son, and then parted ways.

What a perfect ending to a work week.

Serena

We went to visit our baby girl today and we still always show up with some yummy chicken legs for her. She scarfed them down like candy and then talked to us about everything we have missed since seeing her last.  She was so loving and I could listen and watch her all day.

She's put on her winter weight and it's time to start her home make-over while it's cool out.  We want to create her a new home which will look like a cave made out of boulder rocks.  And have a pool with a roof for added summer shade.  We're going to need some help from friends on a tbd weekend in February.  Let us know if you would like to help!

As we were about to leave I was lucky enough to grab this photo of Zeus.   His two front teeth are pretty special.  Special enough that National Geographic came to check out his K9's due to they resemble the Sabertooth tigers.

I'm so grateful to be able to know Serena, but I always get sickened by the people who think big cats are pets.  Please know that these animals belong in the wild and help the ones that didn't have a choice.

UPsideDOWN

Sergeant's little world has been turned upside down this morning.  We let go of our comfy purple couch.  This was Serg's favorite spot.  ...He would flip all the cushions on it to get the perfect spot to roll up in, shed his little short hairs all over it, and the final straw was when he had an accident in his sleep that we knew it was time to let this guy go.

Sorry Serg.

...do you let your pets on your furniture?  We're thinking we just can't give them that option on the new furniture.  It breaks my heart though.  What should I do now?  Make them their own comfy little floor bed??

Help, a sad puppy mom!

Scoots Revenge

So Scooter was embarrassed by this post, where I said we were shocked that he fell since he's a cat.  So, to prove us he could do it even with the ladder upright, he went straight to the top!

I should leave out the part where Paul had to climb up to help bring him down, but let's just keep that a secret between us.

Keep climbing!

Family Time

We were suppose to be in Aspen this weekend but at the last minute pushed it to January.  Several things have happened and now know that everything happens for a reason.

I had an early breakfast and estate sale shopping with Stephanie and Casey this morning.  But for now we're working on the house and spending time with our "kids".

Shadow is trained to be able to "cross" anything.  So we like to come up with fun little challenges for him.  Since the ladder was conveniently in our living room, Paul put it across our furniture and asked him to cross.

He did it like a champ, twice.  So his brothers wanted to give it a try too.

We were shocked that Scooter fell ...since he's a cat

Sergeant thought Paul meant to cross to the other side of the ladder.  He's too smart for his own good.

Hope you're spending time with your family and friends this weekend.

Best Friends

These two are best buds, especially in Costa Rica.  I think Paul slows down and actually relaxes so Shadow jumps all over daddy and son time there.

Shadow loves to go around the property with Paul on tasks but his favorite time is snuggle time.

"Mom, don't take a picture of my nose!"

I always tell Paul that if he is half as good of a Dad as he is to our pets, then he will be an amazing Dad some day!

One lucky girl...

Yesterday was our two year anniversary.  And when Paul took the "kids" out to potty before taking me to the Dallas World Aquarium for lunch, Michael our neighbor captured my family like no other.

How lucky am I to be married to this man and to live next to this man.

K-9 Equipment

Some of you have asked where we got Shadow's kennel and I just received the new Ray Allen catalogue and thought I would share.

Paul came across Ray Allen's site for professional K-9 equipment when we first got Shadow.  We couldn't be happier with the quality and selection they have.

Here are some of our favorites:

This kennel is awesome and we recently flew it down to stay at our house in Costa Rica.

We have this water bowl in black.  It can roll around and tip over without spilling a drop of water!

The quality of this leash is great.  It feels really strong and durable in your hand.  I use this one leash for both Sergeant and Shadow and I just hold the middle.

We have a different bite suit, but it's just like this one.  We bought ours from a cop on the Dallas K-9 unit.

Here is our wish list from the new catalogue:

Our current bite collars are silver and they don't have the quick release.  We think these would look awesome on Sergeant and Shadow.

This is a stabbing guard that we could put on Shadow when we think someone is on our property in Costa Rica.

I want to get this and then have Shadow do the canopy tour with us through the jungle!  Paul thinks I'm crazy.

Sergeant's feet burns very easily in this hot Texas heat when we go for walks.  I think he would appreciate some kicks for protection.

And finally check this out...

It's a camera pack for your dog!

We will not be making this purchase at $7,895.95 but it sure is pretty cool!

So there you go.  There is our dog supply secrets!
