Bangkok City Restaurant

Today was a special treat.  Paul (my husband) came with me and the lunch crew to lunch.  For him to grace our presence we had to switch our plan up and go to Bangkok City.  We didn't hesitate since it's always in our rotating restaurant choices.

The minute I sit down I always have to order up a Thai Tea.  It's ridiculously sweet but that never turns me off and I usually have it gone before our meal arrives.

We all order our usuals and have a wonderful conversation as I explain what I learned from the most recent Drugs, Inc. episode regarding the use, creation, and dealing of heroin in this world.

After finishing off our salads or soups to start the meal, our food arrives...

Red Curry Chicken is my favorite...

and Paul loves his Gang Dang.  He's up to three chilies hot now.

I embarrassed the group with my decor shots and we head back to work with a good-bye to Paul.

Helpful Bangkok tips:  Park in Bryan Streets Tavern's parking lot if there's nothing available out front and don't mind the odd smell when you first walk in.  I promise it goes away once you start eating.

sunglasses

I'm a loser when it comes to sunglasses ...in the sense that I have lost every pair I've ever owned.  I was about to write off sunglasses in my life until I came across these two pairs.  I've totally fallen for them but 1.  I can't decide which pair to get and 2. if it's even worth the price tag to one day leave them somewhere.

So help me, Illesteval Leonard in wood  or  Grey Ant Foundry in black?

britt by britt

I've been wanting to do an art piece with arrows and did a quick search online to see what I could find for inspiration.  I didn't realize that I was about to become obsessed with a jewelry line.  I'm writing this post within 15 minutes of coming across Britt's site brittbybritt.

The following is on my instant wish list.  With having to narrow down my wants before clicking purchase, I thought I would share with you...

Cancer

I have 57 blog posts that I have written and never shared.  When something is on my mind or heavy on my heart I write about it, but rarely do I hit publish.  I decided to sit down and over the next few days pick a few to share with you.  Here is one on my constant thoughts of cancer...

*****

Cancer is such a poisonous word.  You almost whisper about it and never say it aloud.

I have a weird outlook on cancer.  I kinda expect that one day I'll get it.  I have it as a challenge that I will face.

My Grandmother and Aunt both have survived breast cancer.

And to be surprisingly honest I dated a guy for a brief moment that had just fought cancer and was finishing out treatment when we started dating.  I swear deep down I thought that while we were dating that I must be "safe" from getting cancer because what are the odds of two young adults going through it at such a young time in their life together.

...We know cigarettes can lead to cancer, which people put into their bodies.  So tell me why haven't we really looked at the food we put in our bodies?

America is putting fillers, byproducts, etc into our food, which makes it cheaper to produce and also gives a quicker growing time, which in turn makes more money for the government.  Even though it is causing us to be ill, it's more beneficial for them to continue.  We will then spend thousands of dollars trying to save ourselves.  Like the Ford Pinto in the 70's, when it was cheaper to pay off the law suits from actual deaths then to make a recall and fix all the cars for peoples safety.  Is this the same thing?

Some people question how could God let others get cancer, but it's time to take that finger and point it back at us and ask what are we doing to each other that's causing this epidemic.

I would like to make healthy changes in my diet and lifestyle to ward off this awful beast.  It's time to take a stand against what's causing cancer, instead of focusing completely on surviving it.

What are your thoughts on cancer?  I'm sure there's not a person I know not going through or knowing someone fighting this battle right now.  Peace be with you.

Take your green and shove it!

I'm all about recycling and trying to use only what you need from this earth.  But, what I'm about to tell you is going to change your life and make conservatives upset...

If you have horrible water pressure in your shower it might not be something you have to deal with.  In newer shower heads there is a thing called a Flow Restrictor inserted into the head.  We found this out by thinking our shower in Costa Rica had the worst imaginable water presser and it was something we couldn't easily fix.  We then bought the same Grohe shower head for our home here in Dallas and it barely rinsed the conditioner out of my hair!  We knew something had to be up and Paul found out about this little Flow Restrictor through some research.  Once you remove it, the water flow comes back in full force.  Click here for instructions on how to remove your restrictor and have more gorgeous hair in the mornings!

Just make sure to be more mindful to take faster showers.

Invisalign vs Braces

I’ve always had crooked teeth.  It’s something that I don’t even think about.  I’ve never really been teased about them and how often do you look at your own teeth?  Rarely, so I figured why fix them?

I’ve had several dentist say I need to get them straightened to prevent future damage when I’m older.  I always thought someday, but not now.  Honestly, I think it would be weird to have perfect teeth.  Almost in the sense that I was a fake version of myself.  But, recently I’ve noticed them getting tighter and I’m starting to think it might be time to take the plunge.

If I do this, should I go through the old school braces route or step up my game with Invisalign?

Instagram more like Instaddicted

I have an addictive personality. ..hence why I've eaten Chick-fil-a two days in a row this week.  But my love affair with Instagram is out-of-control.  I actually up to now was against photoshopping pictures in any way.  I felt like it was a lie and the truth is what you snap.  I wouldn't even check Instagram out thinking it was a scam to pictures.  But once my friend Jun joined, I had to finally take a peek.

And oh my gosh!  It's like a whole new world I've been open up to.  I even totally dig it more than Facebook.  I hope this feeling doesn't fade as fast as Draw Something left my rotation.

I'm thinking it's here to stay!

Animal Crackers with a side of Dreams

I was obsessed with Shirley Temple as a little girl.  We lived in Germany with only two American TV channels, so I would watch old recorded VHS tapes of her movies repeatedly.  I would sing all of her songs and reenact her lines with my stuffed animals as an audience in my room.

For the longest time I thought someone was going to find me and put me in the movies.  She made me believe that I was a star.  That Hollywood was this magical place and that I belonged there.  I was so embarrassed by this dream that I never admitted it to anyone (until right now).  I honestly thought they would know once it came true.

I have that same embarrassment with this blog.  Kittens and Pitbulls brings me so much joy and I would love to be able to do this full time.  To one day have enough readers to obtain sponsors.   I'm so scared of saying that out loud.  To show my weakness in wanting something that may not come true.

Isn't funny how we think our dreams and goals are suppose to just happen.  That you don't have to put any work behind them.  I now know if I want something, I need to say it out loud.  I need to put action to my thoughts.  It's true to anything no matter how big or small.

So here I am.  Arms wide open declaring my goal and conquering my fear.

I would like to have by the end of the year 1,000 local Dallas followers and two paid sponsors.

Will you help me?  Please "follow" my blog and share with anyone that you might think they would enjoy my content.  I would appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

K&P DIY Club!

I enjoy taking the time to create.  Let it be a painting, crafts, or even learning photography and other hobbies.  But lately I haven't found the time to do just that.  I also have so many friends that I would like to see on a more regular basis.  Then over Easter weekend it hit me to start a DIY Club with my friends.

So... I am so excited to announce the K&P DIY Club!

With Mothers Day and wedding season coming up the first project will be creating our own stationery and cards.  Ever since I saw this post on Cupcakes and Cashmere I have wanted to do this with friends.  I will be providing all the supplies with a little wine and treats on the side.

The cost will be $25 and will be this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at my home.

Please RSVP by commenting, messaging me, or by text.

Can't wait!!

(I will be announcing future dates and projects soon!)

Easter Anniversary

I'm not sure if it's normal to celebrate your engagement anniversary, but Paul and I do.  We've gone back to Costa Rica every Easter to celebrate since Paul asked me to be his three years ago.

Easter 2009

When Paul took me to this specific beach during my first trip to Costa Rica he made such a big deal out of visiting this spot that I thought he might ask me to marry him.  When we arrived and he didn't ask me I took the notion right out of my head and was blindsided when he asked me a couple hours later under "our tree" on our property.

Easter 2012

We didn't plan on visiting the same beach this trip on the same day, but Jose wanted to snorkel so he asked us to come here (...story later to come).  We figured since we had a camera on us to take a picture in the same spot.  The fence post that is in the forefront of the picture is the same post we placed our camera on to take the original picture.

I love celebrating our relationship.  It's truly special and I still feel like the luckiest woman to be able to call Paul my man.

Museo de Insectos at the University of Costa Rica

Ever since I fell in love with my first Costa Rican bug (click here for link) I have been dying to learn more about them.  I did some research to find the only insect museum to be at the University of Costa Rica in San Jose.  So finally on this trip we drove up a day early to explore what the Museo de Insectos had to offer.

I was immediately welcomed by some old friends.  This is a rhino beetle and they are super duper strong.

This guy was actually flying next to our truck as we left our house.  We almost thought it was a bird!

I enjoyed how evil this grasshopper looked.  I think he must have been a bad ass in his day.

Then I saw some fashion forward insects...

color blocking

tribal

neutrals with neon accents

metallic

black and white

ombre

and Missoni.

These were born never to be seen...

Look closely.  There is a long insect covering this stick.

Each thorn is actually a separate insect on this stick.

...and these are just down right cool.

I came to the conclusion that I miss seeing the insects alive and moving in their natural habitat.  I also realized that there might not be too much documented research on Costa Rican insect, let alone in the Osa.  Paul thinks I should work with the University on creating a book.

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them.

Costa Rican Gun Makeover - Before & After

BEFORE

Remember this shot from a previous post?  It's Jose's gun that he brought with him to be our guard.  We since have added to the collection but when Paul saw it, he told him he would clean it up for him.  Paul is always good for his word and even bought a new handle and cleaning kit for it.

AFTER

Paul spent several hour cleaning, refurbishing, and bluing the gun.

When Paul gave the gun back to Jose it was night and in its harness, so Jose said thank you and went about his way.  The next morning Paul got a text from Jose saying when he looked at it again he thought it looked like a new gun.  I agree.

Costa Rica Easter Getaway

I flew down to Costa Rica with Paul for Easter.  He went down a day before me and picked me up from a closer airport the next day.  I was dying to see the kids and Paul reassured me that they knew I was coming.  When we arrived I went to their house before my own to see them ...and they were no where to be found.  Marta was home doing laundry and told me they went for a walk.  I was honestly bummed.

Then I saw Jose walking to our house with a bouquet of flowers.  He took the kids into the land to cut me fresh beautiful flowers.  They said they tried to beat me to the house before I got there but failed.

I never get over how gorgeous the natural flowers are in Costa Rica and how much I love that family!

Speaking of the family ...check out Bexsa!  She's huge!!  This was her first time to play in the sand and she loved it.  They even covered her in it up to her diaper!

Hope you had a wonderful Easter as well.

He is Risen.
